The governorship candidate of the Sustainable National Party(SNP) in the March 9 polls, Obinna Ilechukwu Munonye, has dissociated himself from any petition or legal process against the Imo governor – elect and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the outcome of the election.
About 26 political parties and their governorship candidates had earlier filed a petition challenging the declaration of Ihedioha of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the polls.
Munonye said this, yesterday, in an affidavit he deposed at the state High Court, Owerri, a copy of which was made available to newsmen.
He said in spite of the fact that his party’s logo was inadvertently omitted, as a result of which he was excluded from the governorship contest, he had no intention of seeking redress at the court, as he had accepted the outcome of the election in good faith.
“I’ve whole-heartedly accepted the election of Ihedioha as the governor-elect in Imo State. I, therefore, dissociate myself from any move or step by any person or my party to challenge the election and the return of Ihedioha as the governor-elect.
“I’ve not instructed any person, neither have I given consent to any person to take legal proceedings, challenging the election of Ihedioha in any court of law or tribunal,” he said.
The SNP governorship candidate maintained that any legal process purportedly bearing his name as a petitioner or using his name to facilitate the legal process in any court of law or tribunal does not emanate from him.
“As a citizen of Imo State, I join hands with Ihedioha to move the state forward and engender peace, tranquility and harmony,which would, in turn, accelerate the socio-economic development of the state.”
