Coalition of Imo Young Professionals (CIYP) has called on President Bola Tinubu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure that the November 4 Imo State gubernatorial election is free and fair.
National Coordinator for the coalition, Chukwuemeka Emmanuel, at a press briefing, in Abuja, expressed concern that the political atmosphere was getting heated, ahead of the poll.
Emmanuel stated that a survey by his group indicated that the people of Imo were yearning for change in the administration of the state. According to him, research by the coalition also indicated that the electorates were more favourably disposed to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu.
Consequently, he stressed for a level playing field so that the wishes of the people can prevail in the poll.
“We wish, first and foremost, to call on President Bola Tinubu, the father of modern progressive politics in Nigeria, to please use his good offices to enforce free and fair elections in Imo State come November 2023.
“In the same vein, we wish to call on the IGP, the DG-DSS, and all national security chiefs that will deploy personnel for electoral day duties to patriotically bear true allegiance to the Constitution of the Federal Republic by esteeming democratic integrity as a non-negotiable value far above all other possible considerations on Imo 2023,” Emmanuel stated.
