The Imo State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Ralph Nwosu, has directed contractors handling various road projects in the state to ensure their timely conclusion.

Nwosu, who gave the directive while conducting an unscheduled inspection visit to several road construction sites in Owerri, the state capital, on Tuesday, September 10, explained that the tour was aimed at assessing the progress and status of ongoing projects.

Some of the roads inspected are the 35km Owerri-Port Harcourt Road with ongoing drainage construction works, Owerri/Onitsha Road, which entails road expansion and shoulder rehabilitation works, Chidi Akurunwa Street by Teachers House (grading works), World Bank/Umuguma Road, Lord’s Chosen/Dreamland Road, and Hospital Road.

The Commissioner, after his tour, called for efficient hydraulic structures, proper earthwork, drainage, and pavement construction on the roads. He also gave directives for strict adherence to project timelines and quality control measures, as well as acceleration of construction activities for timely completion of projects.

Explaining the significance of the projects, Nwosu noted that they will enhance economic growth, improve access to social services, and enhance the overall quality of life for Imo residents.

The Commissioner’s visit demonstrates his proactive approach to overseeing infrastructure projects and driving sustainable development initiatives that will improve the well-being of Imo people, in line with Governor Hope Uzodimma’s Shared Prosperity Agenda.
