Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has donated N5 million and a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) to The Apostolic Church, with a charge to Christians to continue to pray for the peace, progress and prosperity of the state.
Ododo announced the donation at the maiden convention of The Apostolic Church, Lokongoma Area, in Lokoja, yesterday, where he was represented by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo.
The money was donated in support of the convention, while the SUV was presented for the use of the newly appointed Superintendent of the church.
The governor said Kogi was steadily rediscovering its development potential through projects and initiatives in infrastructure, education and healthcare.
He listed the proposed Lokoja International Airport, an ultramodern market as well as ongoing construction of schools, primary healthcare centres, clinics, hospitals and roads among projects being undertaken by his administration.
He said the theme of the convention aligned with his administration’s vision to reposition Kogi as a destination for development and investment.
“The theme of this convention resonates with our administration’s drive to reposition Kogi State and make it the epicentre of development in Nigeria. Our state is accepting the charge to arise and shine.
“In a couple of years, we will boast of an international airport and in a couple of months, we will be launching a safer and more commercially viable ultramodern market.
“We are building schools, primary healthcare centres, clinics and hospitals. We are constructing roads and providing other social amenities for the benefit of our people,” he said.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for adherents of all religions to practise their faith freely.
“The governor has also sent in a donation of N5 million to support this convention. In addition, he has donated an SUV for the use of the new Superintendent.
“Despite being a Muslim, the governor is a friend of the Church, and he will continue to provide a conducive environment for all faiths to thrive,” Fanwo said.
Vice Chairman of the LAWMNA Territory, who represented the Chairman, Pastor A.B. Geoffrey, thanked Ododo for his support to the church, and assured him of continued prayers for his administration and Kogi State.
Earlier, Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Folashade Ayoade, and Auditor-General for Local Government, Yakubu Adabenege, commended the church for its prayers for the governor and the state government.
Other government officials at the convention included Femi Obanewo and Dele Nihi.
