The President-General of Obile autonomous community and Coordinating Presidents General of Ohaji/Egbema Counicl Area of Imo state, Mr. Omuruka Kingsley Chigozie has appealed to Imo State Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma and the the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure that justice is done in respect of alleged attack and brutality meted against him by one Inspector Innocent Okebata (aka kill and bury) at Izombe, in the Oguta Council Area of the state.
He also alleged that the Police Inspector has vowed to eliminate him for petitioning the Police command over his activities in his community.
Speaking at a Press brifing on Tuesday in Owerri, the Imo State capital, the community leader said he was brutally beaten by police Inspector Okebata at Oguta when he had honoured the invitation of Member Representing Ohaji/ Egbema/ Oguta/Oru West, Hon. Eugene Dibiagwu to collect palliatives meant for widows in his community.
According to Omuruka: ” On 7 June which was last Friday of this month, I had arrived the premises of Izombe Central School, in Oguta council area of Imo on the invitation of Our member representing Ohaji/ Egbema/ Oguta/ Oru West , Hon Eugene Dibiagwu who had invited all President Generals from all the communities in the federal constituency for the sharing of palliatives meant for widows in their respective communities.
But while waiting with other PGs to collect the allication Inspector Okebata ( AKA Kill and Bury ) stormed the venue with over 25 armed youths and descended on me beating with sticks and every thing within their reach.”
Continuing, ” I mercilessly beaten . I lost my phones and other valuable items. Inspector Okebata is not representing the Nigeria Police well and so the IGP should remove the police uniform from him. He is one of the bad eggs denting the image of the force and going contrary to the rules of police engagement”.
Omuruka who is also the President of the Presidents General (POP) Imo state also pleaded with governor Hope Uzodimma to call Okebata to order lamenting that his continued excesses had become an embarrassment to the state.
Similarly , Comrade Akam Kingsley , President General of Ochia autonomous community, Ochasi Chukwuemeka, President General Ohoba autonomous community and Apostle Moses Ugwu- President General Obosima autonomous community who all corroborated the claims of Omuruka denounced the action of Okebata as cruel and barbaric and called on governor Hope Uzodimma, the police authorities, civil liberty and civil society organizations to wade into the matter and ensure that the erring inspector is brought to book.
“We are law abiding and we are part of this government. We were shocked at the level of bestiality demonstrated by Inspector Okebata because it is a shame to the Nigeria Police Force”.
