Ahead of the State Assembly elections, immediate past State Publicity Secretary of Action People’s Party (APP), Hon Cajetan Duke says that Ngor Okpala state constituency needs a courageous spokesman and not timid bench warmers as its representative in state Assembly.
He noted that Ngor-Okpala which is the largest council in the state has been practically abandoned by the state government because the council has nobody to speak for the people at the State Assembly.
Duke stated this yesterday during an interactive session with Association of Ngor Okpala Journalists, at his country home in Eziala Nguru community in Ngor Okpala council.

The former State Spokesman of APC and Action People’s Party respectively, said that he decided to join the contest for the 2027 State Assembly polls to represent Ngor Okpala state constituency, on the APP platform.
He said it is regrettable that the council has not witnessed any real development and practically abandoned the so-called leaders and those who have represented the council in the past and currently are too timid to speak for the people.
“Ngor Okpala which is the largest local government in the state has not been able to produce a spokesman for the people. Unfortunately since 1999 till date, what we have been producing as lawmakers are timid bench-warmers, people who go to the Imo State Assembly to support the “last speaker” for four years.
He said further: “Recently, the state government identified about 20 rural roads that would be reconstructed across the state. Not one is in Ngor Okpala, a council that has no motorable road. Over 136 primary schools need urgent rehabilitation but nothing has been done because we don’t have a voice in the assembly. You can’t give what you don’t have.
“I am not going to occupy a seat at the State Assembly but to be the spokesman of the people, who will draw the attention of the state government to the lack of infrastructure in the council. We should send our best, who knows the politics of development, not the politics of rice/beans sharing which is what we have been witnessing since 1999. 2027 must not be business as usual. I am not going to support the last speaker on the floor of the State Assembly but to speak on behalf of the suffering people of Ngor Okpala which is what those who have been representing us have failed to do. Today, Ngor Okpala has become a laughing stock in the state,” Duke stated.
