Imo: Apart from former Mbakwe, no other governor can equal Uzodinma, Ikedife Jr says

From David Onwuchekwa, Nnewi

One of the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South East, Mr Dozie Ikedife Jr, has said that the reason the entire executive members of the party in the zone sent their felicitations to Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State who emerged the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum was significant.

Mr Ikedife who is the South East Zonal Organizing Secretary of the APC told journalists, yesterday, in Nnewi that the significance was to prove that Governor Uzodinma was first among equals who he said had demonstrated leadership qualities that endeared him to the party stalwarts.

He said that the input of the Governor would always be needed as the leader of the Progressives Governors’ Forum. He noted that the Governor had always represented and would continue to represent the interest of the APC members and non-members alike in the zone, adding that the members were happy with Governor Uzodinma’s leadership style.

Ikedife said that Governor Uzodinma deserved a second tenure because of his performance in the entire Imo State.

“Since after former Governor Sam Mbakwe who governed Imo State between 1979 and 1983, no Governor of the State has equalled Governor Uzodinma in performance.

“Look at what he has done to Owerri-Okigwe Road; Owerri-Orlu and Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia Road. There are numerous instances like that which road users now enjoy.

“Look at how he attracted the dredging of Urasi into the Atlantic Ocean so that Imo gas could be evacuated. His good relationship with the Federal Governement has attracted the conversion of a Medical Center in Owerri into a Federal Medical Center in the State.

“You say the opposition calls him the Supreme Court Governor. It doesn’t matter whether they call him a Supreme Court Governor or Governor Supreme, what is important is that the Supreme Court restored his mandate. The Supreme Court only helped to restore his mandate.

“That is why in democracy, when you feel aggrieved in an election, you don’t have to take laws into your hand, you go to tribunal, from there to the Court of Appeal and finally to the Supreme Court. That’s what Governor Uzodinma did.

“The Supreme Court cannot give you something out of nothing. He went to the Supreme Court and he was able to prove his case and the Supreme Court saw the merit and that was why the Court restored his mandate from Emeka Ihedioha.

“That is behind us by the way. That was four years ago. Right now he is going for re-election and as far as I know, he has exceeded expectations and his second tenure is going to be unprecedented with dividends of democracy. We’re happy with him and that’s why we congratulated him,” Ikedife Jr said.
