Members of the South-West chapter of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria on Monday marched through the Maryland area of Lagos to protest reports that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, had been killed. The demonstrators waved placards and chanted slogans against the United States and Israel.

The protest briefly slowed traffic along the busy corridor, with security operatives stationed at key points to maintain order. There were no reports of violence, and the demonstration remained peaceful throughout the day.

Addressing journalists, the IMN South-West coordinator, Muftau Zakariya, said the protest was against continued foreign aggression in the Middle East. He criticised the US for destabilising sovereign nations for its own interests.

“I said to you that nothing good is coming from the US intervention. It is only interested in their economic gains and not minding the consequences thereafter,” Zakariya stated.

The protesters urged the international community to condemn interference in Iran’s internal affairs and called for unity among Muslim communities worldwide amid rising geopolitical tensions.

By late afternoon, the demonstrators had dispersed peacefully, and normal traffic and activities gradually resumed in the Maryland area.
