Kemi Badenoch, the Nigerian-British Leader of the Conservative Party in the United Kingdom, has promised a “strict numerical cap” to curb rising migration numbers.
This was part of her proposed reforms unveiled during a speech and Q&A session at Westminster on Wednesday.
Badenoch, who assumed leadership of the Conservatives earlier this month, highlighted the strain that high migration levels place on housing, healthcare, and other public services.
She also admitted the failures of past Tory governments on immigration but affirmed her commitment to regaining control of the UK’s borders “without fear”.
“Immigration is at a pace too fast to maintain public services,” she said. “For decades, the political class has presided over mass migration… The system that replaced free movement is not working.”

She maintained that the political class has glossed over this issue or treated it as a fringe concern “and that has to stop”.
Badenoch insisted that the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) would not hinder needed action.
She harped on the need for migrants to adopt British values, noting that integration was necessary.
Badenoch, whose own heritage reflects the diversity of modern Britain, declared: “Without a shared national identity, our country will suffer.”
She added, “When people come here, they must buy into the values, customs, and institutions that attracted them here in the first place.”
