From Uchenna Inya, Abakaliki
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Hon. Chris Usulor, has declared that he possesses the political strength and grassroots support needed to win the party’s primary election for the Ebonyi Central Senatorial District, regardless of the calibre of his opponents.
Usulor, a former three-time member of the state House of Assembly, made the claim while addressing journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital. He maintained that he enjoys widespread support across the senatorial zones and would comfortably defeat any aspirant in a free and fair primary election.
Usulor was reacting to the recent consensus arrangement reportedly championed by Governor Francis Nwifuru, which endorsed the incumbent senator, Ken Eze, as the APC candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.
Although he insisted that Senator Eze is “not a political match” for him, Usulor said he would respect the decision of the governor and the party in the interest of unity.
He noted that the senator remained politically fortunate because the governor had decided to support the return of all National Assembly members from the state.
“Ken Eze is easily the least popular candidate among all the aspirants for that position despite being the incumbent,” Usulor said.
“I can boldly say that if a primary election were held today, I would comfortably defeat Ken Eze. He is not a match for me anytime, any day. If he claims he has the capacity to defeat me, let him agree to jettison the consensus arrangement and let us go for direct primaries, so we can test our popularity. I can beat my chest and say that he will lose woefully to me in any political contest.”
Usulor, however, reiterated his loyalty to Governor Nwifuru and his administration.
“Because of my love, admiration, and respect for Governor Francis Nwifuru, I accepted the decision. But that does not in any way mean that Ken Eze is better than me or even my match politically,” he added.
