Smokin Hills Golf Club’s golden boy, Ojo Tope Ilesanmi and Ikeja Golf Club’s Opawunmi Afolasade have won this year’s Men and Ladies categories of Elizabeth Wuraola Ojo Toyota Golf Tournament as the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, out of his very busy schedule, graced the Gala Night climaxing the 2025 tourney at the Smokin Hills Golf Resort, Ilara Mokin, Ondo State.
Ilesanmi who started his Golfing career as a Caddy before graduating to a full time amateur player with a handicap 16 made a Gross of 85 and a Net of 69 to clinch his first title in the tourney while his Ladies counterpart, Afolasade playing Handicap14, Grossed 82 and a net of 68.
Reacting to his feat, an elated Ilesanmi said, it was a dream come true as he went memory lane to express his happiness saying, “ I started as a Caddy for someone here in this Golf Course before I started playing as an Amateur and today I am a winner. So I am very happy and excited to turn my dream to a reality and make it a golden record. So I am very happy. It was very challenging when I started and I want to give big thanks Muyiwa Adegbenro playing Handicap 15, he was there for me and kept pushing and encouraging me.
“Today I am so happy coming from the point of a Caddy to become a Champion and Now the reigning champion in Amateur, It’s a dream coming true I am still going to be there playing from Handicap 28 to 16 today, it’s a gradual journey and I will there by God’s grace. Maybe, next year I might be pro, I can’t tell and I can still be the winner of Elizabeth Wuraola Ojo Toyota Golf Tournament next year. I am very grateful to God”.
The second place in the men’s category went to Ojuolade Olatunji handicap 7made a Gross of 77 and a net of 70 while the third place winner went to Balogun Ayodeji, handicap 22 with a Gross of92 and net of 70.
In the Ladies category, Osmond Diana of Ikeja Golf Club playing handicap 11,Grossed 82 and a net of 71 won the second place just as Alamu Chichi also of Ikeja Golf with handicap11 made a Gross of 82 and a net of 71 for the third position.
The Special award of the Most Amiable Woman of the tournament was won by Mrs Taiwo Ade-Ojo of Smokin Hills Golf Club, Ilara Mokin while Adebisi Abdulrasheed of Ikeja Golf Club with a Gross of 86 and a handicap 14, he also won the Men’s Longest Drive just as the Captain of Smokin Hills, Adegbenro Gboye won the nearest to the Pin as the Veteran first position went to Iyare Feceers while Adebayo Kunle.
The Ladies Longest Drive was won by Osmond Diana of Ikeja Club while Yusuf Grace of Ekiti with handicap 9, Gross88. The Nearest to the Pin was won by Oluwadare Aminat of Cross Creek.
