The Iyade Royal Family of Ikeja has reaffirmed the ancestry and indigene status of Prince Tajudeen Muritala Raji, describing recent doubts about his lineage as unfounded and misleading.
In a statement delivered on behalf of the family, Prince Olushola Coker said the decision to speak out was driven by the need to protect their heritage and correct what he called growing misconceptions surrounding the prince’s roots.
According to him, the family could no longer remain silent as narratives questioning Prince Raji’s place in Ikeja’s history continued to gain attention. He emphasized that the royal lineage is well documented and preserved through both written records and oral tradition passed down across generations.
Central to the family’s position is a detailed account of their ancestry, which traces back to Jalo, widely regarded as the founder of Ikeja. The lineage, as outlined, flows through Ilo, Iyapo, Talabi, and Iyade, from whom the royal family derives its identity.
Prince Coker noted that this historical continuity is supported by records, including one dated March 22, 1966, which the family regards as critical evidence of their longstanding roots in Ikeja.

Further clarifying the lineage, the family identified Ilo as a significant figure whose descendants include Oba Momodu Ilo, recognized as the first monarch of Ikeja, and Adeniyi Ilo, the current Oluwo of Ikeja.
Both are described as direct links within the same ancestral line as Prince Raji.
The genealogy presented by the family continues through Ogisanyin, Amina Oke, Shanu, and Omowunmi, whose union with Raji produced Laisi and Muritala. While Laisi reportedly died without children, Muritala carried on the family line, becoming the father of Jimoh Muritala, Prince Tajudeen Muritala Raji, and Azeez Muritala.
The royal family stressed that this lineage is not merely a sequence of names but a reflection of identity, heritage, and cultural continuity. They described it as a “living history” that binds present generations to their origins.
Prince Coker added that the clarification was necessary not only to defend Prince Raji but also to safeguard the integrity of the Iyade Royal Family and its historical legacy.
He maintained that the family’s position is rooted in verifiable facts and long-standing tradition, expressing confidence that the truth would prevail despite ongoing disputes.
By reaffirming Prince Tajudeen Muritala Raji’s status, the family says it hopes to put an end to speculation and ensure that future generations have a clear and accurate understanding of their heritage.
