Ikeja Electric Plc has commenced the refund of payments made by eligible customers for meters supplied under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme, with the refunds being credited to customers through their electricity vending transactions.
The company disclosed this during its September Virtual Stakeholder Engagement, where it provided updates on its metering programme, including the ongoing MAP refund process and new meter prices.
Under the refund arrangement, customers who previously paid for their meters will receive the approved refund through credits applied to subsequent vending transactions over the designated refund period.
Ikeja Electric said customers can track the progress of their refunds online using either their meter number or account number.
The refund dashboard provides customers with details including the cost of the meter, number of refunds received, monthly refund amount, total refund received and the date of the last refund. It also provides information on the applicable refund token sent to the customer’s registered phone number or email address.
Customers who have concerns about their MAP refunds were advised to contact Ikeja Electric through its official complaint channels or visit the nearest undertaking office for assistance.
The company also used the stakeholder engagement to warn customers against engaging unauthorised electricians to work on its electricity infrastructure, following recent incidents involving fatalities linked to unsafe electrical activities.

Speaking during the session, Mr. Olaniyi Olayiwola, Head, Quality, Health, Safety & Environment, urged customers not to allow unqualified persons to climb Ikeja Electric poles, work on power lines, tamper with electrical installations or carry out illegal connections.
“Please do not engage electricians to climb Ikeja Electric poles. If you see someone carrying out unsafe activities around our infrastructure, kindly report to us,” Olayiwola said.
He urged customers and communities not to intervene directly when they observe unsafe electrical activities, but to report such incidents through the company’s designated safety emergency channels.
Olayiwola also called on communities to maintain adequate clearance around high-voltage power lines, warning that encroachment on electricity infrastructure and inadequate right-of-way remain significant safety risks.

“Our engagement with customers goes beyond providing information. It is about ensuring that our customers have the knowledge and channels they need to stay safe, seek assistance and get their concerns properly addressed,” Okotie said.
