The Niger Delta Development Monitoring Group has called on Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri and NDC national leader Seriake Dickson to exercise restraint in their utterances ahead of the 2027 elections.
Team Lead Nengi James Eriworio said supporters need issue based campaigns rather than personal attacks that could lead to tension and violence.
The group cautioned against cheap controversy over who enthroned whom. It urged focus on development plans for roads, seaports, refineries and shore protection.
It called on both leaders to allow the spirit of the Ijaw nation, which preaches tolerance, to guide their activities. They should ensure their campaigns do not instigate bloodshed.
Each politician is enthroned by others with the certification of God, the group stated. What the people need is infrastructure and prosperity, not personal grievances.
