IGP orders arrest of killers of Ogun resident as family

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, Adegoke Fayoade, to investigate the killing of one person during an attack on the Osuke community in Ogun State by a gang of gunmen allegedly led by a notorious land grabber.

This is just as the family of the deceased have raised the alarm over the arrest of four of their members, including an asthma patient, by policemen attached to Onipanu Division, Ota.

Saheed Shoboyejo was last week shot dead, while many others were injured in two different attacks on Osuke community by over 100 armed hoodlums.

The Ogun State Command confirmed the recovery of three expended cartridges and two spent AK-47 rounds from the scene of the attack.

AIG Fayoade, however, stated that the police have stepped up a manhunt for the leader of the gang, Elijah (a.k.a Killer) and other members of his gang.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, while reacting to the alleged terror attacks that have been linked to the perpetrators, said, “This is the first time that it got to the attention of the IGP and he has directed the AIG, Zone 2, to ensure proper investigation and arrest the perpetrators.

“The Nigeria Police Force will not condone any form of criminality or terror from anybody.”

ACP Adejobi said the IGP also warned that any police officer found to be collaborating, aiding and abetting the perpetrators of the attack “will be dealt with in accordance with the provision of the law.”

AIG Fayoade told newsmen that: “We have begun investigations into the activities of the gang. I have declared a manhunt for their leader and other members of the gang.”

He also stated that, “We will not allow any form of terrorism under any guise within this zone. We will go after them and arrest them and we will ensure that they are properly prosecuted.”

Meanwhile, the Ileke family has decried the arrest of four members of the family by policemen attached to Onipanu Police Station.

They identified the arrested members of the family as: Yisa Akeju, Akeem Olusoji, Samuel Akintunde and Jamiu Musibau, even as one of them is said to be suffering from asthma.

A member of the family, a legal practitioner, Olanrewaju Balogun, has called on the AIG to not only order the immediate release of the family members ,but also ensure investigation into the interest of the Onipanu Divisional Police Station in the crisis .

Balogun said that the arrested family members had on Saturday gone on a fact finding mission at a part of Osuke community ,when they were arrested .

According to him ,the arrested members are being detained at Onipanu police station without being allowed access to their family or a lawyer .

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),CSP Omolola Odutola claimed not to have been briefed of the arrest of the family members.
