IGP confab: We’ve run criminals aground, nabbed 30 – Osun CP

Commissioner of   Police Osun State, Mr. Ibrahim Gotan, said the command has run criminals aground by arresting 30 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists. He told the recent Inspector General of Police [IGP] conference in Abuja: “Our aim is restoring public confidence and tackling insecurity in the state. My officers are adequately equipped and prepared to confront security challenges, enhancing their effectiveness in serving and protecting the public. The command’s unwavering commitment is to make Osun State safe, secure and free from crime and criminality.

“The command has imbibed community policing. Officers should apply professionalism in carrying out their duties. I have encouraged officers on discipline, professionalism and integrity as core values every officer must uphold.

“Insubordination will not to tolerated. We are making efforts in combating crime and fostering a secure environment conductive to socio-economic growth.

“The command has identified and dismantled criminal camps to rid the society of criminal elements and their nefarious activities. The Anti-Cultism Squad arrested three suspected cultists, armed robbers and kidnappers. They killed their victim and stole his Lexus jeep black colour with registration number GGE 197 JJ. The car was recovered with iPhones and some other valuable items.

“The Prompt Response Unit [PRU] attached to lkire Area Command intercepted a Toyota Camry, registration number BDG 684 HW, silver colour. Two suspects were arrested with a stolen car and other items.

“The A Division, IIe-Ife, in conjunction with Anti-Kidnapping Squad, arrested three suspects involved in robbing a boutique shop in IIe-Ife. They made away with items valued at N800,000.

“The B Division, IIa-Orangun, arrested a suspect who specialised in stealing phones from house-to-house. One cut-to-size double barrel gun was found in his possession.

“Police Swift Action Squad [SAS] during its stop-and-search operation at Osu, IIe-lfe/lbadan Expressway, arrested two suspected vandals with IBEDC cables tied to their motorcycle. Also, CP Surveillance Team (CPST) intense efforts led to the recovery of seven motorcycles.

“During the team’s search along Osogbo-IIesa Road, intercepted a Toyota Camry and arrested four suspects. They were terrorising llesa, Osu environs. The Anti-Cultism Squad arrested three suspected cultists who were members of Eiye Confraternity involved in armed robbery. They invaded Oke-Ola, Osogbo, during masquerade festival and killed a 26-year-old victim before taking to their heels.

“We have restored the boundary tussle between Esa-Oke and Oko-Ido communities. I visited the scene and deployed tactical team operatives to maintain peace. I visited flashpoints and deployed tactical team to checkmate hoodlums.

“New operation strategies, training and re-training of personnel will be paramount to enhance tactical engagement. IGP Olukayode Egbetokun’s vision is to fight crime and criminality and ensure adequate security.

“The command has continued to intensify efforts in combating crimes through proactive policing, intelligence gathering and swift response to distress calls. We urge residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement agencies with timely and actionable pieces of information.”
