Commissioner of Police, Niger State, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, has warned: “Time is up for kidnappers, armed robbers and cultists to vacate the state, show repentance or face a baptismal fire. Already, we arrested over 70 suspected armed robbers and kidnappers and rescued 35 victims.”
He spoke at the Inspector General of Police (IGP) conference in Abuja: “My vision is to focus on proactive initiatives designed to deny safe havens to criminal elements who may seek to challenge our commitment. The command has undertaken a comprehensive reassessment of its crime prevention strategies, with community policing serving as the foundation element of approach.
“I visited the DPOs, area commanders, including tactical teams, and we are revitalising community policing strategies to foster a people-centred approach and imbibe communitypolicing. Officers are warned to shun corruption and illegal duty. Officers must adopt modern practices that will improve performance and uphold public trust in law enforcement.
“We enhance professionalism and ensure that police personnel discharge their duties responsibly and with respect for human rights. The command is updating the professional capacity of officers in line with global policing standards and addressing skill gaps caused by outdated or neglected procedures. They should cultivate good relationship with members of the public. We have ordered intensive intelligence raids on all criminals’ enclaves and hideouts.
“I have charged officers to uphold the highest standard of professionalism, discipline, dedication, integrity and transparency in the course of their duties.
Also, they shouldshun corruption and illegal duties.
We have declared war against the bandits.
“Within five months weburst criminals’ hideouts and arrested some suspects. We dealt with criminals.They should repent else they will be visited with baptismal of fire. We haveconducted multiple successful operations.
“We conducted securityclearance operations between July 3 and 5, 2025. The Anti-Kidnapping Squad andPolice Division, Agwara, rescued 35 kidnapped victims from Birimin-Gwari forestincluding women and children who were held captive.
“Operatives of TacticalSupport Team [TST], arrested eight suspects during a raid of criminals’hideouts and black spots in Guru area of Lapai. They recovered substancessuspected to be cannabis seeds, amulets, alcoholic beverages tobacco, otherillicit drugs and dangerous weapons including large machetes, knives’ largesickles and club.
“Operatives of Gawu-BabangidaDivision arrested suspect moving a stolen dispatch motorcycle from Lagos toBenue State. Operatives of Suleja Area Command arrested two suspects
“In Minna, policearrested two female suspects for theft of 15 wrappers and other householditems. In Tudun-Wada, 22 suspects were arrested in a rival clash over illegalmining in Tunga, Minna.
“Operatives of RijauDivision with the vigilante members in Sulupawa village via Rijau to Kumbashiand Kakihum in Mariga LG recovered 50 rounds of anti-aircraft live ammunition abandoned by the bandits at Biyemu forest as aresult of the bombardment.
“Operatives at SulejaDivision and Maje Division, raided an unidentified criminals’ hideout inSuleja, and arrested 20 hoodlums. They targeted black spots and hideouts inKaduna Road, Dikko Junction, Hayin-Kaduna Road and Gauraka. Police operativesarrested another set of 20 suspected armed robbers and kidnappers in theirvarious hideouts.
“Operatives inGawu-Babangida Division intercepted three trucks loaded with 900 bags ofcement. Three suspects were arrested for theft of electric cables in differentlocations.
“The command hasimplemented crime prevention measures that integrate both traditional practicesand scientific methodologies including consistent intelligence led policing.
