- Urges members to distinguish selves
By Henry Uche, Lagos
With the debilitating economic situation in the country occasioned by the dearth of sound management and administrative ideas and strategies across leadership strata, the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) says that it is re-echoing sound corporate governance at its 47th Annual Conference and Dinner holding on 21st September, in Lagos.
At a pre-conference media brief, the Vice President of the Institute, Mrs Uto Ukpanah stressed that sound corporate governance is apparently needed now in the country across levels of governance given the excruciating economic condition of Nigerians.
With the theme, ‘Sound Corporate Governance as a Cursor to Thriving Economy: A Case of Inclusiveness’, she said ICSAN has an array of professionals in corporate and public administration as well as in leadership and management profession to dissect the theme and sub-themes.
Top on the list is Mr Asue Ighodalo Chairman, Sterling Bank Plc, who is the chairman of the occasion, and Professor Enase Okonedo as the Keynote Speaker. Others are Prof Smaranda Olarinde, Vice Chancellor, Afe Babalola University- Ekiti State, who will do justice to ‘Gender Equity: Leveraging on Diversity for Unlocking Corporate Success’, as a first sub-theme; while Mrs Bunmi Popoola-Mordi, who is the Executive General Manager/Company Secretary of Total Energies Marketing Nigeria Plc, would speak on the Role of Governance Professionals as the Springboard For Economic Growth, as second sub-theme.
Ukpanah who urged ICSAN members across the country (some of whom occupying strategic positions both in the private and public sector) to distinguish themselves by practically displaying sound corporate governance, assured that panellists lined up for the event would not leave any stone unturned on topical issues raised as ICSAN looks forward to communicating its position to the national and state governments at the end of the Confab just as it always done in the past on matters of national interest.
“The theme of our 47th conference is undoubtedly apt given the situation we found ourselves in. We are confident that the crop of speakers would most assuringly give their best. ICSAN has always taken a position on matters of national interest and after this, we shall not hesitate to let our voice be heard on corporate governance, public administration, management and leadership at all levels as it affects every Nigerian”
She added that some eminent Nigerians would be awarded by the Institute for their respective significant contributions towards the growth and development of Nigeria’s socioeconomic and political space, as a way of encouraging them to do more for nationhood. “ICSAN shall honour some Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in various spheres of life with awards of excellence, honorary awards and others. It’s a way to spur them to offer more value to our country in different ways and manner,” she maintained.
