The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has paid tributes to its 32nd President, Emmanuel Ijewere, FCA, stating that his exemplary life and remarkable leadership achievements will not be forgotten in a hurry.
Its President, Dr Innocent Okwuosa, stated this during a council meeting which held in honour of Ijewere in Lagos recently.
Until his death, Ijewere was a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, he also held the position of President, Accounting Bodies of West Africa (ABWA) in 1996-97 and became the 32nd President of ICAN in 1996/97.
Okwuosa noted that Ijewere’s demise has undeniably left an indelible void in the institute and added that the tribute provides an opportunity to reflect on his extraordinary legacy marked by unwavering dedication, exemplary leadership, profoundly compassionate and an unyielding commitment to the ideals and progress of the institute.
“He was unquestionably a symbol of greatness, a beacon of hope, and a visionary leader whose dedication, resilience, and steadfast belief in the potential of our Institute served as an exemplar of excellence, leaving an indelible mark on our collective consciousness and the very fabric of our professional identity. He shall be forever remembered as a consummate professional who gave his utmost to the service of the Institute and the accounting profession”, he said.
Beyond his service to ICAN, Ijewere held leadership roles in various capacities, including Chairman of Apel Capital & Trust Limited, Chairman of Confidential Credit and Business, and Co-founder/Vice President of the Nigerian Institute of Taxation.
He also served as President of the Institute of Directors (IoD) and Past National President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS). Notably, he represented the Federal Government in key positions, such as Chairman of the Value Added Tax (VAT) Committee and the Pioneer Chairman of the Agriculture and Food Security Commission.
