Family announces book launch to honour him

The 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin I), will be buried tomorrow, Friday, August 8, 2025.
The monarch joined his ancestors on July 7, 2025, a few days after his 90th birthday and five days before his first coronation anniversary.
According to the bereaved family, the interment will be preceded by a funeral service to be held at 10am at the Cathedral of Saint Peter’s, Aremo, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The week-long funeral activities commenced on Sunday, August 3, 2025, with the semi-final matches of the Olubadan Olakulehin Football Cup at Bishop Philips Academy Stadium, Ibadan.
On Monday, August 4, the preliminaries of the Oba Olakulehin Table Tennis Tournament were held at the Indoor Hall of Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
On Tuesday, August 5, the third-place face-off and final of the Oba Olakulehin Football Cup were played at Olubadan Stadium.
The final of the Oba Olakulehin Table Tennis Tournament was played on Wednesday, August 6, at Lekan Salami Sports Complex.

Today, Thursday, August 7, 2025, an interfaith service will be held at Mapo Hall at 10am, followed by a Christian wake at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan, at 3pm.
Meanwhile, the Olakulehin Royal Family has announced plans for the public presentation of a book, *How Not to Be a King*, in honour of their patriarch.
The Chief Press Secretary to the late king, Chief Solomon Ayoade, explained that the book was published to commemorate Oba Olakulehin’s 90th birthday and first coronation anniversary.
The book, he stated, could not be publicly presented in July due to the demise of the king. He added that it would be presented to the public during the post-funeral reception.
The public presentation is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Friday, August 8, at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, at 1pm.
Giving insights into the book, Ayoade stated that it documents the life and times of the late monarch, featuring personal reflections and testimonials from family members, the Olubadan-in-Council, close friends, and associates.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is expected to grace the public presentation of the book, alongside other dignitaries.
