I have no apology for writing ‘My Participation’ book – Akande

…Challenges critics to publish theirs

From Lateef Dada, Osogbo

The former national interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bisi Akande, has challenged those who faulted his book ‘My Participation’ to go and write theirs.

He maintained he owed no apology to anybody because everything he wrote in the book was true.

His words: “I have no apology for saying the truth. Everything I wrote in my book is true and none has ever come out to challenge me. One pressman said ‘I did not read the book and I will not read the book but the book is bad.’ That is for him. I have written mine, let others go and read theirs.”

Speaking with journalists at a press conference heralding his 85th birthday, in his hometown, Ila-Orangun, in Osun State on Saturday, Akande also insisted that the 1960 constitution was the best as legislators were paid per sitting.

He said, “The 1960 constitution is the best. Farmers go to the farm, doctors go to their hospital and at the time of seating, they go and they give them a sitting allowance. The military wanted to stay in power and they started using salary.”

The Octogenarian also blamed Nigerians for lack of readiness to work, saying that no leader is a miracle that will bring ease when people are not ready for ease.

He said, “Nigeria is a country where nobody wants to work but everybody wants to have money by ease. Kidnapping, fraud, and others have become the order of the day. Who is the magician leader? It is not the leader.

“It is the PDP that created the mindset in the Nigerian population, starting with the military. Nigeria of my day, you don’t work, you don’t eat. Everybody works. But now, everybody is waiting for a miracle and you want the leader to come and make life better for you.

“You want to become an Engineer without becoming an Engineer and you are saying your leader is bad. You are bad followers. The Nigerian followers don’t deserve good leaders,” Akande said.
