Nigerian content creator and entrepreneur Jidex has addressed growing comparisons between his recent social advocacy efforts and those of popular activist VeryDarkMan, making it clear that while he admires the social commentator, he is not copying anyone.

Speaking during an interview with Nigezie Xtreme, a music and lifestyle television channel, Jidex responded to online conversations that likened his action particularly his involvement in helping people recover funds from debtors and fraudulent vendors to the style of VeryDarkMan. According to him, the comparisons actually missed the point.

“I don’t have mentors and I don’t copy anybody. I am my own mentor,” Jidex said. “I admire VeryDarkMan for what he does, especially how he helps people who are distressed, but what I’m doing is simply me using my resources positively.”

Jidex explained that his motivation stems from personal values rather than imitation. He noted that his interventions are driven by a desire to support victims of financial fraud and unfulfilled business promises, adding that having the means to help comes with responsibility.

Beyond the activism conversation, Jidex also spoke on misconceptions surrounding his wealth and influence as a social media personality. While celebrating his newly acquired Mercedes-Benz GLE during a TikTok live session, he addressed assumptions that viral creators depend solely on brand deals to survive.

“I earn well from social media, but it’s not my only source,” he said. “If you stop creating tomorrow, what else is paying you? That’s the real question. You all remember when TikTok banned my account, I was still feeding fine. Now I’ve grown to almost a million followers in a short time.”

Widely followed on TikTok and Instagram, Jidex has built a loyal audience by blending humour, fashion, and social commentary that resonates with Nigerian youth. Off-camera, however, he is known to run multiple businesses, with interests spanning fashion through Jidex Klothing, food services, music, and lifestyle branding.

A digital economy observer Prince Temiloluwa Bayode, popularly known as bigTEE, describes Jidex as part of a new wave of African creators redefining success. “Creators like Jidex are moving beyond ads into ownership. That’s where longevity lies,” he said.

Fans appear to agree. One TikTok follower commented, “That’s why I respect Jidex. He doesn’t just make skits, he’s doing things with the money he makes. He has a house, businesses, and cars.”

In music, Jidex continues to expand his creative reach with releases such as “Blessings,” “Broda Zazuu,” and “44 Flows,” further positioning himself as a multifaceted creative navigating Nigeria’s evolving creator economy.
