The Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has begun the training for its 179 operational personnel on skills development for productivity and service delivery in the commission.
Managing Director of HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa, confirmed this while inaugurating a five-day training for the commission’s operation personnel in Birnin Kebbi.
The training by HYPPADEC was in collaboration with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Minna Area Office, with the theme: ‘Skills Development For Organisational Productivity, while the trainees were drawn from directorate of engineering, operations, and community and rural development of HYPPADEC.
Yelwa while speaking at the training, explained that the crucial roles played by the staffs of the commission necessitated the training, stressed that, there was need for due process compliance at all times.
The MD, who was represented by the Head of Community and Rural Development of the commission, Dr Mamud Umar, reiterated the commitment of the commission to enhancing training, and retraining of its workforce for effective and efficient services to enable them to better the lives of people in the riverine communities.
According to him, “you have a role to play in the development of the commission as you are supposed to lead by example. I implore you to display good personality; do the work diligently and exhibit good character that people will emulate,” Yelwa said.
He urged the trainees to pay vigorous attentive, and take the training seriously in order to achieve the policy implementation of the Federal Government at all levels
Earlier, the Head of Training of ITF, Mr Gideon Dada, said that the need for the training was seen after a joint discussion with the staff of the commission.
He said: “we found out that these are new staff that have come in; a lot of indoctrination and orientation had been carried out on their duties but there is a need to teach them the best ways on how they can conduct themselves on the job.
“They need to have knowledge of the application of the best principles of the productivity-improvement,” he said.
Dada expressed optimism that the trainees would be reactive and able to face up the challenges on the job at the end of the training.
