The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone “C” (North Central) has thanked President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s renewed focus on education and commitment to national development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking during a press conference held on Thursday in Minna, the Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Hussaini Jamilu Ebbo, expressed the association’s profound appreciation to the president for the reappointment of Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa (Katukan Yawuri) as the Managing Director of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC).
According to Ebbo, the reappointment reflects the president’s confidence in Yelwa’s leadership.
He noted that Yelwa’s previous tenure brought visible development to communities within the commission’s jurisdiction.
The zonal coordinator said, “Under Alhaji Yelwa’s leadership, N-HYPPADEC has implemented numerous life-changing projects from the construction of classrooms and healthcare facilities to solar-powered boreholes and streetlights.”
Ebbo also praised the president for prioritising education through significant financial commitments, citing the ₦1.6 trillion allocation to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) as a bold step toward revitalising the nation’s tertiary education system.

As part of its partnership with HYPPADEC, NANS Zone C recently embarked on a four-day on-the-spot assessment of completed and ongoing projects across the commission’s operational areas.
The student body commended the developmental impact of these projects, describing Yelwa’s reappointment as “well-deserved.”
Highlighting some of the commission’s achievements, Ebbo listed the construction of 52 classroom blocks, 140 hand pump boreholes, 128 solar-powered boreholes, and over 852 solar streetlights across HYPPADEC member states.
He further noted the housing projects comprising 120 two-bedroom houses in New Muregi, 80 similar units in Ketso (Mokwa LGA), and 40 units in Zazzaga (Munya LGA), all in Niger State. Other interventions include the donation of 7,500 life jackets to riverine communities, planting of 10,000 economic tree seedlings, and the rehabilitation and expansion of the New Bussa Water Scheme valued at over ₦2 billion.
“Our assessment revealed that the commission’s projects are impacting lives positively. We remain committed to monitoring and ensuring accountability in the use of public funds,” Ebbo added.
The student body also called on President Tinubu to increase budgetary allocations to N-HYPPADEC, stressing that enhanced funding would enable the commission to sustain and expand its developmental interventions in power-producing communities.
NANS reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Tinubu administration’s policies aimed at building a better Nigeria, especially in the education and infrastructure sectors.
