Experts in Human Capital Management (HCM) has charged the newly inducted HR practitioners of Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), to take charge of their respective organizations ‘as people managers’ if they all must successfully sail in the troubled global business environment.

The President & Chairman of the Governing Council, CIPM, Mr. Olusegun Mojeed, who admonished them during the 51st induction ceremony of 143 Associates and Full Members Cadre, in Lagos, encouraged them to remain focused, resilient and persevere despite overwhelming challenges in HR profession.

“You must not give up. It is to your advantage if you do not give up. I have failed before, then I learned to fail forward. Arise, dust up yourself, and give it another try. It is important if you remain relevant. Don’t get lost in the crowd.

“This is a stepping-stone to something greater, and your launching pad to global HR relevance. This is not the time to now ‘siddon look’. Your certification is a call to higher service. We are here for you, and we will help you to excel”

Mojeed who assured the Lagos state government of the Institute’s continued relationship with Admin/HR personnel of the State Civil Service, urged Inductees to live the CIPM Code of Conduct and Core Values in their professional and personal dealings.

“Our core values are encapsulated in the acronym SCRIPT: S – Service; C – Creativity; R- Respect; I – Integrity; P – Professionalism; and T – Teamwork. These are not just slogans. We are not in the business of sloganeering. These are vital shaping forces when we live by them. I assure you the Institute will continue to explore avenues and provide platforms to deliver value to you and ensure your continuous professional development” he avowed.

Similarly, the guest speaker, Ahmed Ladan Gobir, – Group General Manager/Senior HRBP (Commercial & Anglophone), Dangote Cement Plc, tasked the inductees to pay attention to their technical, cognitive, leadership/ communication, organization and Management competencies if they must soar in the HR world.

Gobir who spoke on the theme: “Now That You Are Chartered: Building Professional Competencies For Excellence And Impact” said though becoming a chartered Professional is a way forward, however, it is just the beginning of a journey towards building professional competencies for excellence and impact.

“To excel as a Chartered professional, it is important to constantly improve and develop the skills, knowledge, and abilities required to meet the expectations of clients, employers, and the community”

He added that the process involves building on existing competencies and acquiring new ones to enhance professional performance, improve decision-making abilities, and maximize the impact of one’s work.

“You must unlearn and relearn where necessary, embark on continuous research and development to update yourselves and leverage on networking and relevant groups of experienced players. You must expand visibility through writing articles for public consumption, get more certifications, attend intellectual programs, then study and keep studying” he charged.
