An educationist and author, Preye Okunbiri, has stated that the topics of books can boost reading culture in Nigeria.

Speaking at the unveiling of five books, namely, God’s Creative Initiative, The Potentiality of God, Reserved Realms, Moral Excellence, and Everest of Knowledge, she stated that she realised early that she had a potential for writing, and she depended on God’s inspiration to write.

According to her, the subject plays a crucial role in ensuring a reader stay gulled to a book, which develops the reading culture over time.

While disclosing that two out of the seven books she has written would first be unveiled in an academic setting because of their research content, she added that her books are to expand the intellect of people.

She said, “I realise that potentials are different, and mine was in literature and also creating knowledge. Over time, I developed the process by depending on the inspiration of God, knowing these tendencies as a field of literature that I have developed over time.

“Subject plays a role in reading culture. If you have a good topic, it would provide inspiration. You won’t get tired of reading it. So, topics must be related to nature and individual characters.”

Prof Oyintonyo Micheal-Olomu of the Department of Sociology, Federal University of Otuoke, who introduced one of the books titled, “Everest of Knowledge”, stated that the book is a must-read because of its distinct style and content.

According to her, the book exposes the epistemology of knowledge, the root of knowledge, and how it is acquired.

Micheal-Olomu said, “It draws metaphors from nature when it looks at how animals are created, and can draw certain benefits from it. It is a must-read book. In fact, it has science in it by looking at Chemistry and Physics behind the knowledge. It looks at the different stages and types of knowledge. As a philosopher, she was able to bring a lot of philosophy into the books. It is a must-read.

“The unique book draws a lot of references from the scriptures. It is not only academics. If you are in academics, you read some books and get bored. There is a spirit behind the book that makes you want to finish reading it.”
