Filmmaker and author, Laju Iren has averred that the COVID-19 lockdown inspired her to produce her YouTube series ‘During ever after’.
‘During ever after’ is a series that features stars BellaRose Okojie, Olu Salako ‘Boda Wasiu’, Bayo Oloko, Inem King, Olumide Owuru, and a host of many others.
It was directed by the award-winning Michael AMA Psalmist Akinrogunde, written and produced by Laju Iren.
Shedding light on the inspiration, Iren said: ”At the beginning of the lockdown, I had just become a filmmaker and made my first short film, ‘Love is a star’. We wanted to do something longer, then COVID-19 was just becoming a national phenomenon, things were still basically normal, until COVID-19 came. So it was very close to the time around the lockdown. I remember saying to myself that imagine people who are used to running away from the issues of their marriage because they have to go to work. And during the lockdown nobody was going to work. Flights were cancelled, everything was on lockdown. The way most people deal with issues in their marriages is by avoiding them.
They go on with their daily normal lives. But the lockdown brought about a situation whereby people had to stay at home. Setan Rhodes who happens to be a pilot in the series had to face the issues in his marriage. The lockdown period made some couples grow stronger while some grew apart. So I just wanted to create a situation where people who have been avoiding the issues in their marriage find themselves in a position where they have to face these issues. This is a couple that used to be in love but the cares of these world made them grow apart”.
Asked about the lessons people would learn from the series, she said: “I want people to watch the series and say this is something I can learn from. This is a show that teaches the values I will like to imbibe in my own marriage. Whether they are single or already married. I want it to change stereotypes about marriage. Why must we assume that all men are cheats”.?
