As Nigerian enterprises deepen their embrace of technology-driven operations, Temitope Daniel Akanbi is fast emerging as one of the continent’s leading advocates for digital transformation among small and medium-sized businesses.
Akanbi, a Senior Manager in Market Strategy and Planning at Procter & Gamble, has gained recognition across Africa and the Middle East for pioneering automation and data-led solutions that strengthen business performance in highly competitive markets.
Recently, his work captured international attention in Oman, where he led a groundbreaking digital campaign between Pampers and Lulu Hypermarket. The initiative—powered by artificial intelligence tools, real-time customer data and automated pricing systems—was widely reported in major Omani outlets, including Times of Oman and The Arabian Stories. Industry watchers hailed the project for its ability to enhance in-store execution while boosting sales through targeted digital innovation.
Beyond Oman, Akanbi has spearheaded initiatives across diverse regions. In West Africa, he introduced digital platforms that have enabled over 40,000 SMEs to streamline inventory management and improve efficiency. In South Africa, he championed the rollout of data-driven promotion systems that improved the accuracy and impact of in-store campaigns. Similarly, across the Gulf region, his projects have empowered retailers to cut costs while expanding their online footprint.
Akanbi’s unique blend of technical and commercial expertise underpins his success. A Computer Engineering graduate from the University of Lagos with an MBA from the Quantic School of Business and Technology, he emphasizes that digital solutions must be tailored to the realities of developing economies.
“Digital systems shouldn’t just be for big companies,” he said at a recent panel session. “They should be built in a way small businesses can actually use and benefit from.”
His research work further amplifies his thought leadership. Papers such as The Intelligent Growth Engine and Beyond Guesswork explore how data analytics and automation can unlock scalable growth in emerging markets.
Colleagues describe him as a strategist deeply attuned to the operational constraints of developing economies—from fragile supply chains to poor consumer data infrastructure. Rather than rely on imported models, Akanbi has consistently designed bespoke, tech-driven solutions that respond to local business realities.
With Nigerian SMEs facing mounting pressure to automate, compete and remain profitable, analysts say Akanbi’s model provides a practical roadmap for sustainable growth. His growing influence across Africa and the Middle East underscores the transformative role of digital innovation in shaping the future of business on the continent.
