About 1000 women, including infants, girls, and widows, have received free medical care at Full Life Specialist Hospital, Enugu.
This was during the Well Women 2024 Free Medical Outreach staged by the hospital’s management in partnership with Powell Homes and Shelters Limited.
The beneficiaries were given various degrees of medical attention at the hospital in Independence Layout, Enugu.
The services provided during the programme included consultation on all medical and surgical cases for women, consultation for all obstetrics and gynaecology cases for women, consultation for ear, nose, and throat cases for women, paediatric consultation for girl children, dental consultation for women, dermatology consultation for women, laboratory tests, free drugs, X-rays, breast examination, health talks and interactive sessions, ultrasound scans, amongst others.
Managing Director of Full Life Specialist Hospital, Dr. Goodness Nwabueze, disclosed that the exercise was a yearly event, where people, especially indigent women, were helped to know their health status, and manage issues affecting their health, amongst others.
She said that 980 women from all walks of life benefitted from this year’s exercise.
Nwabueze explained that it was also part of the hospital’s ways of giving back to society in line with the principles guiding its corporate social responsibility.
The medical director also harped on the importance of living a healthy life, especially for women, whom she said are creators of humans.
She commended the management of Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, led by Chibuikem Onyekachi, for always giving the yearly free medical exercise the needed support, disclosing that over 95 per cent of the logistics used for the programme were provided by the estate firm.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, Chibuikem Onyekachi, said they chose to partner with the hospital owing to their impeccable track record of decency and commitment to saving lives.
He stated that the turnout for this year’s exercise was marvellous, adding that he is happy that many lives were saved while many lost hopes were renewed.
Also, the Programme Officer of the League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV), Nnenna Anozie, commended the two outfits for their commitment to improving the welfare of the people, especially women.
The gender activist used the opportunity to sensitize women on their rights, providing clues on gender-based violence, and highlighted the importance of its awareness among women.
She called on stakeholders to join hands in the fight against gender-based violence for a better society.
The beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organisers, describing the outreach as a blessing in time of need. Many shared how the exercise provided them with opportunity to access medical care they had postponed due to financial constraints.
Some mothers, who brought their daughters for paediatric consultations, shared how relieved they felt after their children received proper diagnoses and treatments. Others lauded the organisers for including services like laboratory tests and free medications, to them. In their words, it was a lifeline for those who could not afford the high costs of healthcare.
