…Abducted teenage girl rescued
From Jude Chinedu, Enugu
A wave of horror and outrage has swept through Umuojor village in Umumba Ndiagu, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State following the gruesome discovery of two decomposing bodies in the soakaway pit of a native doctor, identified as Levi O. Obieze, popularly known as Ezeani, and infamously referred to as ‘E de play, e de show’.
The chilling incident came to light on Monday after a young girl was abducted while accompanying her father to the farm.
According to a village eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity, the kidnappers used deception to carry out the act.
“The little girl was walking with her father to the farm when two men on a motorcycle stopped and pretended that their bike had developed a fault,” the witness recounted.
“One of them asked the father for his cutlass to fix the issue, which he gave them. They then asked him to help push the motorcycle. It was during this distraction that one of the men snatched the girl and sped off.”
The frantic father raised an alarm, prompting members of the local vigilante group to launch a search operation. Later that evening, villagers reported hearing loud cries from a nearby bush.
“Following the sound, the search party traced it to a soakaway pit in the compound of the flamboyant native doctor,” the eyewitness said.
When the vigilantes arrived, the native doctor allegedly attempted to block them from entering his premises. However, he was overpowered, and the abducted girl was rescued alive from the pit.
What followed next stunned the entire community: further search of the compound led to the discovery of two decomposing corpses in the same soakaway, one of them identified as a pregnant woman.
The suspect, widely known for his extravagant lifestyle and notorious for spraying cash at public events, is currently on the run, reportedly fleeing with his four wives. Security agencies have since launched a manhunt to apprehend him.
In swift response to the atrocity, key government officials, including the Chairman of Ezeagu Local Government Area, Vita Ndu; the member representing Ezeagu Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Chima Obieze; and the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, visited the crime scene to assess the situation.
Acting on the directive of Governor Peter Mbah, the Ezeagu Council Chairman ordered and commenced the demolition of the suspect’s buildings on Tuesday, as part of a move to restore public confidence and demonstrate the government’s zero-tolerance stance on violent crime.
Meanwhile, two suspects allegedly working with the native doctor in carrying out kidnappings were apprehended by the vigilante group and handed over to the police for further investigation.
