A school teacher, simply identified as Okunola, has been killed by a hit-and-run driver, in Odeomu, Ayedaade Local Government, Osun State.

The driver immediately ran away to avoid being lynched by the mob, but his car was burnt beyond recognition.

The incident was confirmed by the Divisional Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Ayedaade division, Adigun Daniel, who explained that it happened Tuesday evening.

Daniel explained that the victim, Okunola, was a teacher at St. Michael Grammar School, Obada area, Odeomu.

“The victim bought cassava pills at Obada market and tried to board a bike when the car rammed into him. The bike man escaped by jumping into the gutter. The people in the area lit the car with fire immediately after they confirmed the passing away of the victim and the car burnt beyond recognition.

“The Driver of the said car was at large and his whereabouts are unknown as of the time of filling this report,” Daniel said.

According to the NSCDC, efforts to calm the situation proved futile as the scene was tense and overcrowded.
