Gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen militia, have reportedly killed three young men in two communities in Adoka, Otukpo Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.

The Caretaker Chairman of Otukpo LGA, Alfred Omakwu, made the disclosure while speaking to newsmen on phone, yesterday.

Omakwu, who noted that his people have not known peace of mind in the last few months, said the incident took place last Saturday. He stated that the armed herdsmen killed one person in Entekpa community and proceeded to Uda Ibi, Adoka Icho community, where they also killed two people.

“There is no peace in my area. We lost three youths again, one in Entepka; he was riding his bike and they followed him into the bush path and attacked him. They shot him dead, burnt the bike and escaped. At Uda Ibi in Adoka Icho, they killed two people on a farm. The killers are herdsmen. We have been having a series of meetings with their leaders (Ardo), but these ones that come to our area claim to come from Nasarawa. They are not known and their leadership is unknown. These are the violent ones.”

He called on the relevant authorities to mount surveillance and secure the lives and property of his people.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, said she had not received any report on the incident.
