The Honourable StateMinister of Health and Social Welfare, Hon. Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako has commended the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) for their dedication to improving the health and well-being of Nigerians.

The Minister gave the commendation Friday at the 14th Biennial Delegates Conference of the MDCAN held in Enugu with the theme “Physician, heal thyself,”

Represented by Prof. John Emaimo, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences , Enugu the Minister hylighted the importance of doctors taking care of themselves in order to better care for their patients.

The honourable minister touched on the global issue of mental health challenges faced by doctors, specifically mentioning the Otanisi psychosis and Japa syndrome that affects many medical professionals in Nigeria.

While acknowledging the sacrifices and challenges faced by doctors in their profession,the minister, emphasized the importance of self-care and seeking help when needed. He urged all participants to engage in thoughtful discussions on how to address these issues and improve the healthcare system in Nigeria.

The speech also highlighted the role of the government in improving the work environment, welfare, and infrastructural requirements for safe healthcare delivery.

The minister thanked the MDCAN for their commitment to advancing the field of medicine in Nigeria and commended them for their dedication to improving the health and well-being of their fellow citizens.

The message served as a reminder of the importance of self-care for doctors and the need for collaborative efforts to address the challenges faced by the healthcare system in Nigeria.

Dr. Salako expressed his regret for not being able to attend the conference in person, but extended his warm regards and best wishes for a successful and impactful event.

The conference was attended by medical and dental consultants from across Nigeria, who gathered to share their insights, expertise, and recommendations on improving healthcare in the country
