HBM Nigeria Plc has launched a six-week vocational and entrepreneurship programme for 120 persons with disabilities in Lagos, expanding its 2026 Disability to Ability (D2A) initiative to strengthen employability, enterprise development and economic independence.

Implemented in partnership with the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), the second cohort draws participants from Alimosho and Epe local government areas and combines practical skills training with business and financial education.

Participants will receive hands-on training in makeup artistry and gele tying, wig and braid making, phone and laptop repairs, as well as shoe and bag making.

The curriculum also includes entrepreneurship, financial literacy, digital skills, business management, sustainable livelihoods and green skills within a circular economy framework.

Participants will undertake practical assessments and projects, while the programme will culminate in a graduation showcase featuring their craftsmanship and business solutions.

Director of Communications, Public Affairs and Sustainable Development at HBM Nigeria Plc, Viola Graham-Douglas, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to creating opportunities for people of all abilities to develop their talents, pursue their ambitions and participate fully in the economy.

“Our approach to inclusion centres on fostering an environment where human potential is recognised, nurtured and fully realised.

“Through D2A, we equip participants with both the technical skills and broad business insights needed to unlock their potential, earn a sustainable living and contribute meaningfully to society,” Graham-Douglas said.

The latest cohort builds on HBM Nigeria’s continuing commitment to socio-economic inclusion.

In the 2025 inaugural edition, the company trained 100 persons with disabilities across Lagos in similar vocational skills in collaboration with LSETF, the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, and other stakeholders.

HBM Nigeria Plc is a provider of building solutions and manufacturer of cement, ready-mix, mortar and Plaster of Paris products.
