From Okwe Obi, Abuja
Sequel to the economic hardship in the country, Executive Director of Weekenders Media Commercial Limited,
Joy Omagha Idam, has encouraged Nigerians to extend their hands of kindness to the indigents.
Idam, who stated this recently during her 53rd birthday celebration in Abuja, distributed food items to 60 widows in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as an example.
The ceremony which took place at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Abuja, had in attendance crème de la crème in the pen profession, family members and friends.
Elated Idam, said the gesture was a way of giving back to the society and in memory of her late mother, Bassey Ita – Chukwu Idam who touched the lives of so many people.
While waxing biblical, the veteran journalist cited Exodus 22 vs 22, and said God expressed concern for the widows and instructs people to take good care of them and provide for their needs.
“God encouraged people to take care of the needs of the widows because he sees their plight and has compassion for them,” she said.
She said she would continue to reach out to indigent widows and under privileged, adding that the importance of supporting the widows does not rest alone but a community effort.
She, therefore, called on good-spirited individuals, philanthropists to support the project in order to provide succour to widows in the country and the less privileged in the society.
Responding on behalf of the widows, Dorcas Nwosu thanked the CEO for her kind gesture and prayed that God would grant her many more years in the land of the living.
Highlights of the occasion includes; cutting of birthday cake, dance with the widows and the widows prayed for Princess Idam.
