Chief Fasasi Kadri Oluwarotimi, Baale of Igboola in Epe, Lagos State, has urged Nigerians to hold their local and federal representatives accountable rather than blaming President Bola Tinubu for the nation’s hardship.
At a press briefing after the Eid-el-Kabir prayers in Epe, Chief Fasasi noted that the disconnect between elected officials and the electorate was a significant factor in the current difficulties facing the country.
He emphasised the importance of transparency, accountability, and diligent service from representatives at all levels of government, from local government councillors to members of the National Assembly.
“It is clear that people are crying over the high cost of living, among other general problems that the country is witnessing. My message for Nigerians is to channel their grievances, agitation for good governance and improved economy to their elected representatives at both local, state, and National Assembly levels, not only to the President.
“Our various elected representatives are far from the electorate and not delivering their constitutional responsibilities to the people that elected them into power. We are appealing to all these representatives nationwide, from governors to senators, House of Representatives, House of Assembly representatives to ward councillors.”
He also acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of specific leaders who have been dedicated to their communities. He praised the Alara of Ilara, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsonwo Telade, and other local chiefs for their efforts to ensure happiness, peace, and stability among their subjects.
“We appreciate those seen working day and night for the betterment of all. These include our king, the Alara of Ilara, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsonwo Telade, who is the paramount ruler of Ilara Kingdom and vice-chairman of Obas in Lagos State and the chairman of Obas in Epe Division. We appreciate his general efforts to ensure happiness, peace and stability among all subjects and people under him. More so, all the councils under him, from Oba Ogunsanwo; High Chief Hakeem Adams, the Baale of Ogunsonwo Lapeni village; High Chief Ogegbo of Ibonwon and Ekeji Ilu of Ilara; and other chiefs in Ilara Kingdom; Olisa among other Baales who have been always supportive in ensuring stability. Finally, my regards to the family head of Igbonla, Alhaji Ismail Kamorudeen.”
