Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, former Deputy Governor and Senator, Oluranti Adebule, and the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, have called on young people to actively participate in governance and contribute meaningfully to societal development.
The leaders made the call on Friday at the second edition of the Youth and Governance Symposium and the unveiling of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter Ward Champions.
The symposium, themed “Building the Future of Governance Through Youth Participation,” brought together young leaders, policymakers and stakeholders to discuss the role of youths in leadership, civic engagement and nation building.
Speaking at the event, Hamzat urged young people to move beyond criticism and become active stakeholders in the governance process by engaging in public service, policy discussions and community development initiatives.
According to him, the future of Lagos State and Nigeria largely depends on the involvement of youths in decision-making processes and governance structures.

Adebule stressed the need for young people to equip themselves with the knowledge, skills and values necessary for effective leadership.
She encouraged them to take advantage of educational and empowerment opportunities that would prepare them for positions of responsibility.
Also speaking, Meranda highlighted the increasing role of youths in shaping public policy and strengthening democratic institutions.
She urged them to participate actively in electoral processes, leadership development programmes and community engagements to positively influence governance.
In his remarks, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Babajide Sanwo-Olu to youth development and empowerment.
Earlier, the Chairman of the NYCN in Lagos State, Ibrahim Adigun, called for increased youth inclusion in governance and decision-making at all levels.
