Tragedy struck in Kebbi State on Friday after suspected bandits shot dead a local businessman and abducted his pregnant wife during a night raid on their residence in Birnin Kebbi.
The victim, identified as Sufiyanu Garba, was reportedly attacked in the early hours of the morning at his home in the Badariya area of the Kebbi State capital.
According to a family source, the gunmen stormed the house and opened fire, killing Garba before taking away his wife, Zainab Mohammed Yauri, who is said to be heavily pregnant. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the incident, leaving residents in shock.

A relative of the abducted woman, Mohammed Yauri, confirmed the development, explaining that the assailants shot the businessman at close range before whisking his wife to an unknown destination.
Garba was buried later on Friday in line with Islamic rites at the Birnin Kebbi central cemetery, while family members and community leaders have called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted woman.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident, with its spokesperson, Bashir Usman, stating that detectives had been deployed to the scene and an investigation had commenced.
The attack comes amid growing security concerns in the North-West, barely a day after bandits reportedly killed several residents in separate assaults in parts of Katsina State.
