The Secretary, Okija Development Union, Peter Awah, has been murdered by gunmen suspected to be assassins.
Peter. Awah, a lawyer, was murdered by gunmen on Sunday night while sitting in his compound, at Umudioka-Umuohi Okija in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
It was not clear the reason for the murder of the community leader, who was, until his death, a lawyer and promising young man. Many people within the community said his death was not unconnected with the fight between the community and men of the underworld.
Okija and other parts of Ihiala council have been under the siege of gunmen who operate around the border communities between Anambra and Imo States. Though the police was yet to comment on the incident at press time, the body of the murdered community leader was taken to the mortuary while investigations were ongoing.
