Gunmen on Thursday evening attacked a bullion van in Ufuma community, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
A source, who narrated the incident, said that the bullion van was trailed by the gunmen who eventually opened fire on it and the security men guarding it.
They said that their effort to rob the vehicle failed as the security operatives fired back, and were able to repel them.
The source said that, following the heavy exchange of gunfire that ensued, residents of the area fled the vicinity for safety.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the ugly incident, saying that it happened at about 4pm that fateful day. He added that the police were able to repel the attackers.
The police spokesperson added that the vehicles used by the gunmen which included a Lexus and Highlander SUVs were recovered.
