Guber election: NANS endorses Sanwo-Olu

The National Association of Nigerian Students, Lagos Axis, has thrown its support behind Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in his quest to secure a second term in the March 18, 2023, governorship election.

Declaring its support for the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in a press statement made available to Sunday Sun, the group noted that Lagos has seen quite a few governors, some of whom have expressed a desire to transform the state and city, stressing that “none

of these governors under the new democratic dispensation stand on the same dais of achievements as Gov. Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu, as far as education is concerned, most especially, tertiary education as the man has always insisted since coming to office in 2019, that ‘education is the best tool to close societal gaps, whether these gaps exist in personal growth, regional development, or wealth distribution’.

NANS Lagos Axis further stated: “Thanks to the governor’s progressive thinking, Lagos now boasts of three world class universities. The priority accorded to tertiary education in Lagos by the Sanwo-Olu

administration is unrivalled, as the upgrade of former Lagos State Polytechnic and Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education as Lagos State University of Education and University of Science and Technology respectively are top-notch.

“The tertiary education programmes and policies implemented by the Lagos State governor were designed to support students’ academic aspirations, devoid of the Nigeria drama of ASUU strike and other academic and non-academic strikes. Lagos was the envy of the nation when the nine months ASUU strike of 2022 disrupted Nigerian students academic calendar and lives.

At that same particular period, Lagos underwent the needed phases of transformation in her tertiary institutions, raising the state’s education above the common standard of Nigeria education setting. And this is a state-wide project.”

The group urged eligible voters among the students to troop out on March 18, to cast their votes for the governor.
