Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has denied reports that its website was seized by hackers, describing the claims as completely false.

The bank’s website, gtbank.com, became inaccessible on Wednesday night, just a day after the domain was renewed until 2029.

Despite the disruption, GTBank’s mobile apps for Android and iOS continued to function normally.

No hacker group has claimed responsibility, and there are speculations that a fraudulent version of the website might have been set up to phish for customer information.

A cybersecurity expert suggested that the issue could involve compromised login credentials rather than a domain hijack, according to the Peoples Gazette.

A senior GTBank executive, who spoke to the Daily Post, clarified that the problem stemmed from a connectivity issue, not a hack, dismissing the hacking allegations.
