The highly anticipated Nigerian Secondary School Flag Football Season II, tagged Aketi Bowl, reached a thrilling climax in the vibrant city of Akure, Ondo State with African Church Grammar School emerging champions.
Drawing participants from 75 secondary schools across seven states of the federation. The enthralling event, organized by the American Football Association of Nigeria, left no doubt that it was destined to become a historic spectacle of excellence
In the male category, Government Secondary School, Eket, Akwa Ibom, showcased a brilliant performance, securing a sensational victory over Government Science Secondary School, Pyakasa, to be crowned champions. Notably, the Ogun State team displayed their prowess, clinching a commendable third position in the fiercely contested competition.
Equally captivating was the female category, where African Church Grammar from Abuja exhibited sheer excellence, defeating Ikeja Senior Grammar School to claim the championship title. The Abuja-based team, demonstrating their sporting finesse, secured a well-deserved third position.
The tournament’s closing ceremony was nothing short of grandeur, as the esteemed National Association of Flag Football (NAFA) gracefully hosted the event, receiving wholehearted support from the Ondo State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
Dignitaries from the state adorned the occasion, radiating their aura to elevate the momentous event. Among the personalities present were the Honorable Commissioner of Youth and Sports in Ondo State, Otunba Dele Ologun, and the Honorable Commissioner of Energy and Mines, Hon. Razak Obe, along other guests.
Amidst the celebrations of victory, a touching moment unfolded when a scholarship was offered to Master Bamidele Olamiposi from the Ondo State male team.
Master Olamiposi’s journey was marked by resilience, as he tragically lost his mother during the group stage of the competition. True to his nature as a pure sportsman, he valiantly played through the pain, leading the Ondo State Team to an inspiring fourth-place finish.
The Aketi Bowl transcended mere sportsmanship; it became a testament to the indomitable spirit of the young athletes and the power of unity in nurturing talent. As the flags fluttered in celebration, the passion for flag football found a vibrant and triumphant home in the hearts of these exceptional students.
