In a bold move to shed light on the deceptive tactics of violent extremist groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP, a newly formed coalition of civil society organizations known as the Truth Alliance has unveiled the harsh reality of the disregard for human life and Islamic principles exhibited by these groups in response to recent atrocities.

The Truth Alliance’s mission is to awaken all stakeholders involved in the fight against violent extremism in Nigeria and beyond.

In a statement, the group condemned the recent wave of kidnappings describing them as profoundly damaging to the once peaceful fabric of society.

Labeling these extremist groups as “morally bankrupt,” the Alliance accuses them of perpetuating lies that inflict ongoing suffering, destruction, and death upon the Nigerian populace.

A prominent member of the Truth Alliance, Ahmad Mustapha, emphasised the insidious nature of these groups, highlighting their propensity to deceive and harm innocent civilians.

He stressed that despite claiming to act in the name of Islam, their actions are a stark contradiction to the true teachings of the faith.

Mustapha said, “violent extremist groups always conveniently find ways to hide the truth about what they do. They are always out to harm innocent people, they lie, they cheat and they commit all sorts of crimes against every member of the society. They claim to represent Islam, but the truth is far from that.”

Commenting on the death of innocent Muslim worshippers after a recent suicide bombing in Northeast of Nigeria, the Truth Alliance described the killings as having no part in Islam, revealing instead their “utter disregard for those who choose to worship during the Holiest month of the year.”
