An elite group, Unique Okohia Sons and Daughters, in Okohia-Ugwuagu Autonomous Community, Umuduru Egbeaguru, Onuimo LGA, Imo State, has installed over 150 units of hybrid solar streetlights in the community. Okohia-Ugwuagu Autonomous Community is the country home of the former Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedu Offor and Tochukwu C. Nwosu as well as other notable personalities. The Unique Okohia Sons and Daughters, established earlier in this year, was set up to help bring development to the community and champion unity of the town.
The community is rich and known for oil palm produce, rice, and cassava on a large export scale.
In a statement, the leader of the fledgling association, Mr Geoffrey Nwosu, said, the Chairman of Onuimo LGA, Chief Charles Ijezie will commission the project on January1, 2024, adding that, “the completion of the streetlight project has turned around the face of the community, as nightlife and business activities have been improved.”
According to him, when basic and necessary amenities are provided, the agricultural production output of the community will further increase and contribute more to the GDP of Imo State and Nigeria, which is in line with the “Renewed Hope” mantra of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the drive to make Nigeria sufficient in food production.
He noted that the Okohia-Ugwuagu community being an agricultural viable town is seriously desirous of a motorable road to ease the transportation of agricultural produce to the market.
“Unique Okohia Sons and Daughters seize this opportunity to call on the Imo State governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma to give attention and construct the Okohia-Umuduru Egbeaguru road, which also serves as a gateway to other neighboring communities and LGAs,” Nwosu said.
