The growing needs of vulnerable Nigerians continue to place pressure on organisations working to provide social support, inclusion and opportunities for disadvantaged groups. In that landscape, partnerships between non-profit organisations and private institutions are increasingly becoming an important part of the response.
It was against this background that the Nima Memorial Foundation (NMCF) recognised Marriott Hotel Lagos for its sustained support of the Foundation’s programmes for vulnerable people across the country.
The recognition, presented to the hotel, acknowledged the contribution of its management and staff to initiatives focused on children, girls, persons living with disabilities and other disadvantaged members of society.
Receiving the award on behalf of the hotel’s management and staff, the general manager, Mr Lakshmanan Ramanathan, expressed appreciation for the recognition and the opportunity to participate in initiatives aimed at social development and inclusion.
The relationship between the hotel and NMCF has provided support for some of the Foundation’s activities and programmes, enabling it to engage with beneficiaries and pursue its humanitarian objectives.
For organisations operating in the social-development space, such partnerships can provide access to resources, facilities, professional expertise and other forms of institutional support that may otherwise be difficult to secure.
The Foundation also recognised the event management team of Marriott Hotel Lagos for its contribution to the hosting of Foundation activities. NMCF commended the team for what it described as dedication and professionalism in supporting the events.
Speaking at the award presentation, NMCF Co-founder, Zainab Mohammed Abdulmalik, said the Foundation appreciated the relationship with the hotel.
“We are truly grateful to the entire team at Marriott Hotel Lagos. Their partnership has not only provided practical support but has also demonstrated a genuine commitment to social impact,” Abdulmalik said.
She said the Foundation hoped to strengthen the relationship as it continued its work with children, girls, persons living with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
The recognition also draws attention to a wider question confronting humanitarian and development organisations in Nigeria: how to sustain interventions when the needs of vulnerable communities continue to outpace available resources.
Government programmes, non-governmental organisations, community groups and development agencies remain important actors in addressing social vulnerability. However, the scale and complexity of challenges facing disadvantaged Nigerians have increasingly created room for collaboration with private-sector institutions.
Such partnerships can take different forms, ranging from financial and material assistance to the provision of facilities, professional services, logistics and platforms for community engagement. Their effectiveness, however, ultimately depends on whether they produce sustained benefits for the people the programmes are designed to serve.
For NMCF, its collaboration with private institutions forms part of its broader approach to supporting vulnerable Nigerians through programmes, advocacy and strategic partnerships.
The Foundation’s recognition of Marriott Hotel Lagos therefore represents more than an institutional award. It also reflects the role that cross-sector collaboration can play in extending the reach of social interventions at a time when many vulnerable Nigerians continue to require support, inclusion and opportunities to participate more fully in society.
As such partnerships evolve, their enduring value will be measured not simply by the number of collaborations established or awards presented, but by the extent to which they translate into meaningful and sustained improvements in the lives of vulnerable people.
