Group charges FG to release NDDC’s forensic audit report

NDDC-HQ-1

The national coordinator, Awareness Group, Hamzat Araoye Balogun has charged the Federal Government to release the forensic audit report on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)  submitted to it in September 2021.

The late President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered a forensic audit of the Commission from 2001 to 2019.

Balogun said some people allegedly connived with a woman, who always received N4 billions monthly, totalling N48 billions a year, from the Commission for the training of women in Niger Delta region.

The group, therefore, advised the Tinubu administration to release the audit report for public consumption.

Balogun also added that the implicated individuals in the previous administration blocked the release in order not to see the light of the day.

He further said the present administration has a constitutional right to publish it and act on it.

According to him, with the monumental corruption allegedly ongoing in the Commission, many projects earmarked for execution could not take place, thereby putting many communities in the area in perpetual perplexity and under development.

He explained that N6 trillions was realised from budget and income from the statutory and non statutory sources from 2001 to 2019. He said the government paid hired consultant N318 million to audit the account that was delayed but later submitted to the government in September 2021.

He said it was high time the government made the report public and punished those who are culpable so that the unwavering confidence in the government would be maintained. He warned that covering up corruption would do more harm than good to the country.
