A group, Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA) has called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to officially recognise and declare Basheer Adegboyega Bello (BABS) as the lawful winner of the APC primary election for Boripe/Ifelodun/Odo-Otin Federal Constituency having emerged as winner at the end of the exercise.
At a press conference held in Lagos, Executive Director of the group, Comrade Olaitan Isiak, said the group had credible reports that Bello won the primary election, adding that there had been moves to unlawfully upturn the result of the election in favour of another candidate who came a distant fourth.
His words: “We have received credible reports indicating that Mr. Basheer Adegboyega Bello (BABS) emerged as the lawful and authentic winner of the APC primary election based on the valid votes cast during the exercise. However, it is deeply concerning that there are alleged efforts to unlawfully alter the outcome and impose another aspirant, Mr. Eniade Francis Olwadamilare.

“We are, therefore, alarmed that instead of allowing transparency, fairness, and party supremacy to prevail, certain vested interests are allegedly attempting to suppress the truth and compromise internal democratic procedures.”
He spoke further: “Such actions, if allowed to stand, would not only undermine the integrity and credibility of the APC but also erode public confidence in democratic institutions and internal party processes.”
The group therefore urged the national leadership of the party to reject and nullify any manipulated, altered, or fraudulently procured result intended to substitute the authentic outcome of the primary election.
The group, among other prayers, called for immediate constitution of an independent investigative panel to examine allegations of result alteration, electoral manipulation and other related acts capable of bringing the party into disrepute.
In addition, the group also recommended appropriate disciplinary and legal actions against all party members or collaborators found culpable in acts of fraud, manipulation, or anti-party conduct and urged the national leadership of the party to ensure that the principles of internal democracy, transparency, fairness, and justice upon which the party was founded are upheld.
