In a spirited move to eradicate malaria in Nigeria, Green Life Pharmaceuticals, in collaboration with Green Life Hospital, Seagreen Pharmaceutical and Clearline HMO, hosted a malaria awareness event at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to mark World Malaria Day 2025.
The event, themed, “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine Reignite,” featured free distribution of malaria testing kits and anti-malaria drugs to hundreds of students, alongside robust sensitisation campaigns aimed at empowering the next generation with the knowledge to fight the disease.
Opening the event, Mr. Peter Nwosu, Executive Director of Green Life Pharmaceuticals, emphasised the importance of continuous public education in the fight against malaria. He noted that World Malaria Day, commemorated every April 25, offers an opportunity to reflect on global and local efforts to eliminate the disease. “We are here not just to commemorate but to meaningfully impact lives. It’s about giving back and building healthier communities,” he said. Also speaking at the event, Dr. Oghenerukevwe Peretomode, Medical Officer at Clearline HMO, stressed the need for stronger collaborations among individuals, communities and government bodies. She called for innovative strategies, increased funding, and the adoption of simple preventive measures, such as the use of insecticide-treated nets. Dr. Peretomode also highlighted how climate change—through warmer temperatures and flooding—has contributed to rising malaria rates by creating more breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Adding his voice, Mr. Chris Ikeagu, General Manager of Green Life Hospital, explained the strategic focus on university students.
“Young people are at the center of change. Older generations have adapted to living with malaria, but by educating the youth, we can break that cycle. Prevention is better than cure,” Ikeagu said.
Participants received practical tips on malaria prevention, including the importance of environmental cleanliness, proper waste management and responsible use of medication.
