The Executive Secretary of National senior secondary schools educational development Commission Dr Iyela Ajayi has appealed to all state governors to establish and fund state senior secondary education commission in their respective states.
Dr Iyela made the call over the weekend in lokoja during his visit to GYB model science Secondary school Adanakola while monitoring secondary schools education activities in the state.
He said if the commission is duplicated in all the 36 states in the federation, it will help to boost the morale of teachers, improve their welfare and also enhance the overall educational development in the country.
Dr Iyela said senior secondary school commission was established by the federal government to monitor the development of learning and teaching in all secondary schools in Nigeria similar to what the universal educational board is doing to primary schools.
He said the commission is to monitor planning , implementation and achievement stages in an attempt to reposition the sector of secondary school education .
“All policies and programmes are aimed at repositioning secondary education sectors across the nation irrespective of where one is monitoring or learning from.
“Its a periodic exercise to monitor learning and teaching and to improve on the standard on ground and see how to develop new scheme to better the ones on ground “.

He also said the exercise was to provide data that will help in further planning and and give direction to secondary education curriculum in Nigeria.
He said the commission is more particular on English language and Mathematics development in secondary schools because the two subjects are the back bones toward attaining higher educational qualifications.
“Without credit in English language and Mathematics students can not further their studies and acquire additional degree and qualifications, its the foundation towards proper educational development”he said.
Dr Iyela appealed to all state governments to fund and pay their five percent counterpart funding and also urge them to to make the welfare of teachers and the payment of their salaries a top priority.
